Is there a charge for a Tasting & Consultation?
Tasting & Consultations are offered for Wedding Cakes. This is a chance for the bride and groom to
sit down with Sweet Austin and design their cake. The couple will receive 3 cake flavors and 2
fillings of their choice. Buttercream and Fondant will also be offered during the tasting. There is
no charge for a T&C, but an appointment is necessary.
Does the Wedding Cake have to be White and Vanilla Flavored?
No, absolutely not. This is your day, your cake and your choice. If you prefer your wedding cake to
be blue and chocolate, then it should be blue and chocolate.
What is a Groom's Cake?
A Groom's cake is a second cake that is offered at the Reception. This usually reflects an interest or
hobby of the groom. If the wedding cake is more traditional, this is a great way for the couple to have
some fun.
What is Fondant? I heard it is awful.
Fondant is a European Icing, it is what gives a cake that porcelain finish. Fondant has received a
bad reputation as tasting bad and being hard and chewy. This is not the case. I use either a high
quality fondant or I make it myself. I make a "true" fondant. As a cake covering, fondant should not
be hard. The flavor will be that of your buttercream. It will absorb the flavor of the buttercream. If
you still like the look, but not the taste or texture of fondant, there is a generous supply of
buttercream and filling underneath.
What about a cake stand?
All cakes by Sweet Austin will have a matching base that compliments the cake.
A Puff Base is available at an additional charge.
We have Cake Plateaus for use with our cakes, deposits are required.
Custom Cake Stands for Cupcakes and 3-D cakes will also require a deposit.
Do you decorate the Cake Table?
No., we do not decorate the cake table. We will add whatever accents surrounding the cake that
have been previously discussed.
Who decorates the cake with fresh flowers?
Sweet Austin prefers to decorate the cake if your choice is fresh flowers. There are some flowers that
should not come in contact with your cake. Fresh flowers need to be delivered to Sweet Austin the
day before the wedding.
Do you offer Gumpaste Flowers?
Yes, we do. We make our own gumpaste flowers.
Do you cut and serve the cake?
No, we do not. You should check with the host facility for this service -- some packages have this fee
included and others will charge you extra.
Is Delivery available?
Because of the delicate nature of a wedding cake, delivery is included in the quote given for
wedding cakes. This fee also covers the set-up of the cake. Delivery for other cakes is upon request
and there is an additional charge for service.
What are the deposits that are required?
An "Order Deposit" of $200 or 50% of the order are due at the time of the order,
whatever the greatest dollar amount.
There is a “Hold-The-Date” Deposit. If you are not ready to place your order, this deposit will
reserve your place in the limited number of orders taken per calendar day.
The "Hold-The-Date" Deposit will be applied to your Order Total.
When must the invoice be paid in full? Are there refunds?
The entire balance must be paid 14 days before the wedding date. If the order is booked within 14
days of the wedding, full payment must be received at the time of the booking.
The exception to the 14 days is for the Portrait Cake. Portrait Cakes must be paid in full 45 days
prior to delivery. This allows the sculptor to sculpt the artwork in the likeness of the person.
The “Hold-The-Date” Deposit is Non-Refundable.
Refunds on the “Order Deposit” are available in
full, minus $50 until 45 days before the wedding.
Refunds of the “Order Deposit” are available as follows:
Days 30-44 before the wedding, in full minus $75
Days 21-29 before the wedding, in full minus $100
There are NO refunds of the “Order Deposit” within 20
days of the wedding date.
